One-of-a-Kind Museum

This museum, called the Grand Egyptian Museum or GEM, is unique because it’s the largest in the world dedicated to just one ancient civilization: Egypt!

Where Is It?

It’s right between Cairo, Egypt’s capital, and the famous Great Pyramid of Giza. That’s a perfect place for tourists who want to explore old treasures.

What’s Inside?

The GEM is massive, covering 120 acres of land. Inside, there are 100,000 ancient items. The best part? About 20% of these cool things will be on display for everyone to see. It has 12 big rooms filled with fascinating stuff.

Hidden Treasures

The museum has amazing things like Tutankhamen’s burial box and all the 5,000 things found in his tomb in 1922. There’s also a giant 30-foot-tall statue of Ramses the Great, which is over 3,000 years old! And don’t forget the Khufu ship, a very old boat from 2500 BC found near the Great Pyramid.

A Long Journey

The GEM had a tough time being built. Delays happened because of money problems in 2018, the Arab Spring in 2011, and the COVID pandemic.
